Tidal Paintings
These paintings are made by using ink and the lightsensitive process of cyanotype in direct collaboration with the shoreline. If each element of wave, sand, sun, and pigment converge successfully I am able to make a painting. Everything is meticulously considered and yet also completely dependent on the whims of nature’s elements. When each element comes together a magic happens and I am able to translate that fleeting moment when a wave is at its zenith on the sandy shore. No longer surging forward and not yet receding back, a moment of motion is fixed and held in time.
These paintings are made on Organdy, 95 × 55 inches and Cotton Canvas, 90 × 51 inches
